Short answer: recent, uncomplicated lower back pain typically takes one to two visits a week for two to four weeks, then a taper. Longstanding pain, disc involvement, or repeat flare-ups usually run six to twelve weeks with decreasing frequency. Anyone quoting a number before examining you is guessing.
This article is part of our full guide to back pain relief in Arvada.
The Three Phases
- Relief: reduce pain and guarding. Highest visit frequency, usually two to four weeks.
- Rebuild: restore mobility and strength so the fix holds. Visits spread out, exercise ramps up.
- Maintain: optional. Some patients check in monthly or seasonally, others only when something changes.
What Makes It Longer
How long it has been going on, nerve involvement into the leg, previous surgery, physically demanding work, poor sleep, high stress load, and inconsistency with the home plan. None of these mean care will not work, they just move the timeline.
How to Tell Your Plan Is Working
By week two you should see at least one of: less pain intensity, shorter flare-ups, better tolerance for sitting or standing, or improved range of motion. If none of those has moved, the plan should change or you should be referred, not simply scheduled for more of the same.
Fair Questions to Ask
How many visits, over what period, what specifically should improve, and what happens if it does not. You should get answers in writing at your report of findings, without a prepaid long-term contract.
